Apocalypto - truely 'raw'

"A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within."

This Mel Gibson movie is about ancient Mayan civilization depicted as highly barbaric and violent, which ultimately leads to its decline.

Truely speaking, one would feel emabarassed by various scenes in the movie including violent looting of villages by tribal attackers, rituals of cutting off heads and raw blood spatting violence.

The movie runs behind the hero 'Jaguar Paw' who tries to escape from the killing hands of attackers to save his family and to regain back his hunting grounds of forest.
